Pediatric Clinical Research Center

The Pediatric Clinical Research Center (PCRC) is a valuable source of information and support for clinical research involving children in the Northwest.

The PCRC facilitates patient-oriented investigations by providing:

  • Inpatient beds
  • Dedicated clinical-research outpatient services
  • Nursing services
  • Computer facilities
  • Biostatistical and nutrition consultation

Our multidisciplinary facility occupies a dedicated, 2,600-square-foot clinical research area on the seventh floor of Children's main campus. The facility encompasses:

  • 1,230 square feet of administrative space, a conference room and circulating corridors
  • 1,070 square feet for patient care including six patient examination and treatment rooms, one patient observation room (for psychiatry studies), and a nurses' station
  • 360 square feet dedicated to:
    • Processing of laboratory specimens
    • Meal preparation
    • Medication storage
    • General storage for clinical supplies

The PCRC is an outpatient unit. Inpatient service are provided in beds throughout the hospital.

In 2003, the Pediatric Clinical Research Center approved 23 new studies, more than 25 percent of which were Phase I Studies. The PCRC recorded 2,503 outpatient visits in 2003, a 75 percent increase over the previous year.

Concurrent with PCRC’s increased clinical research activity, Children’s plans to expand the facility to 4,650 square feet in early 2007.

The new PCRC, which will be located on the sixth floor of a newly constructed, state-of-the-art ambulatory care building, will be more centrally located on the hospital campus.
